Boyle Wolfbane is the protagonist of Aveyond 4: Shadow of the Mist. Once a villain, Boyle is forced to take up the job of a hero in order to save his beloved pet Fang.
Biography[]
Boyle was once a menacing villain who almost succeeded in taking over the world. He was defeated by heroes and, as a result, retired to the village of Wyrmwood.
Aftermath[]
After the final battle on Skull Mountain, Boyle goes through the demons' book collection alongside Ingrid and Hi'beru. As Hi'beru suggests writing about their adventures, Ingrid comes up with the title Boyle's Quest: The Zero Hero, which Boyle disagrees, suggesting that they should go with No Rest For the Wicked. The three eventually come to an agreement with Hi'beru's title: The Reluctant Hero.
Soon, Ingrid comes across The Missing Pendragon, a book which tells of the disappearance of a male Pendragon. The story reminds Ingrid of Boyle, leading her to ask for his last name, to which he hesitantly replies "the Horrible". Boyle later changes the topic and leaves for Wyrmwood to make the petrified Qetesh his new gargoyle.
Personality[]
Boyle is very prideful and sometimes comes off as a vain, as he also often looks down on others. Even though he claims to be villainous and evil, he, in truth, has a good heart and cares not only for his pet Fang, but for others too (eventually). It was noted in the game that he has bragging sessions, and that sessions like these were one of the reasons for his downfall.
He is also quite sarcastic and it is not beyond him to lie or trick others, as he is after all a retired villain. He seems to like things that are sinister (like, for example, gargoyles) and he seems to have deep hatred and fear of paladins. Boyle is often seen friendly with animals and has a tendency of turning them into his minions.
Appearance[]
Boyle has the look of a classic villain. He believes that spikes on his shoulders make him scarier.
Relationships[]
Ingrid: Do they like each other? Do they just find the other's discomfort funny? Unclear
Myst: At first Boyle finds her annoying and is pretty mean to her; eventually, they become friends and he helps her save her brother even after he gets Fang back.
Robin: At first Boyle is reluctant to admit Robin is even his minion, but eventually he comes around to calling him a friend. Robin also looks up to Boyle as a sort of fatherly figure.
Hi'beru: Hi'beru helps Boyle with his nightmares, which Boyle will forever be grateful for.
